Earlier this month, students of the MSc elective BK-Launch Studio made a visit to De Machinist. We were welcomed by the architects of MOR Studio and the team of BLOC bv, sharing the story of their companies and the experience of working from De Machinist.
During the online ‘Goodbye, Hello!’ event of last Friday, five young BK Alumni that are also part of the BK-Launch initiative (Sophie van Riel, Italo de Vroom, Willie Vogel, Andreja Andrejević and Frédérique Sanders) elaborated on their ‘first steps after graduating’ and inspired the recent graduates of our faculty. The young alumni emphasized that BK (Technische Universiteit Delft), for them, is a place where everything is possible.
We are looking back at a successful and inspiring week of events. We kicked-off the week with a lecture by Caro van de Venne, discussed the hot topic of Women in Entrepreneurship and closed off by granting young entrepreneurs to continue their entrepreneurial journey during the Entrepreneurship Awards. Together with Alijd van Doorn, BNA and several guest speakers, we hosted four workshops regarding the topic “How do I start my own design firm?” for a large group of ambitious students. Fifty ambitious students with a strong interest in entrepreneurship have joined the third edition of AR0131 Entrepreneurship in Architecture and the Built Environment in order to explore what it takes to build their own venture. Tom Jaring was chosen as winner of the BK Launch Studio, an elective course at TU Delft that aims to teach architecture students entrepreneurial skills by combining these with design activities. Jaring made a business plan for an eco-sound wall.

Together with TU Delft Campus, BK-Launch has just launched the BK-Launch Startup Voucher. This is a grant of maximum €2.500,- available for students at the TU Delft to help turn ideas into business within the Built Environment. The deadline for applying for the BK-Launch Startup Voucher is at the end of October 2021.
Yesterday we have officially concluded the first edition of the BK-Launch Design Studio! 15 students successfully finished the Design Studio and could celebrate at the ABT bv office in Delft together with the tutors and BK-Launch partners.
The brand new BK-Launch Design Studio AR0144 Q4 will kick-off on the 19th of April. We are very excited to see how the combination of design and entrepreneurship will impact the way we look at design.
